Natural diamonds
Every diamond in the Silva Jewellers collection is natural. Laboratory-grown diamonds are chemically the same but formed in weeks rather than billions of years, and are priced very differently. We do not offer them, and would always disclose them if we did.
Fancy colour diamonds, such as natural yellows, are graded on hue and intensity rather than the D-to-Z scale.
Treatments
Most rubies and sapphires are gently heated to improve colour, and most emeralds are oiled to reduce visible inclusions. Both are accepted, stable practices. Untreated stones are rarer and valued accordingly, which is why every listing states treatment where it is known.
Laboratory reports
An independent report records a stone's identity, weight, measurements and any detectable treatment. Pieces in this collection list reports from laboratories including GIA, AIGS, GRA and GIT. Ask to see the report for any piece before you decide.
Caring for fine jewelry
Store pieces separately so harder stones cannot scratch softer ones. Clean diamonds, rubies and sapphires with warm water, mild soap and a soft brush. Wipe emeralds with a damp cloth only, and keep them away from ultrasonic cleaners and heat. Have the settings checked once a year.
